I’ve worked in the finance industry for over ten years, completing my ACCA in 2002. Before starting my current position at The Data Centre, I worked everywhere from a small start-up in Oxford called Mirada Solutions Limited, to Siemens, to Oakley Capital, a private equity firm where I oversaw the personal investments of the Chairman.
When I came to Broadstone, I was working in London for a company that was going through some changes which weren’t aligned with my goals. I wanted to progress to a Finance Director (FD) role within the next three years. I was also looking for a job with a great FD who could mentor me.
As an accountant, I have found that many recruitment agencies don’t understand how our skills can cross between industries. Agencies often want to stick you into exactly the same industry you’ve come from. Broadstone was different. When I met Graham, he asked relevant questions and looked beyond what was written on paper. He understood more than most about how my prior experience could be applied to a new role. It was great to see a company that doesn’t just want to tick boxes, because recruitment agencies can sometimes send you jobs that are the complete opposite of what you want. Graham and Brian personally cared about looking for my next job.
My new position has been challenging, but I can confidently say that most of the criteria I wanted has been met.
